Diamond selection criteria
Every search starts from precise criteria. The goal is not only to find an available stone, but to select a diamond coherent with the jewellery being made, the planned setting and the budget to respect.
Stone shapes
Depending on the project, the search can focus on a round brilliant or a fancy shape: oval, pear, emerald, cushion, princess, radiant, marquise, heart, Asscher or baguette. The shape influences the style of the jewel, but also the bezel construction, the proportions of the 3D file and the possible setting type.
Size, dimensions and carat weight
Carat indicates the weight of the diamond, but it is not sufficient to define its visual appearance. Two diamonds of the same carat can look different depending on their shape, depth, diameter and proportions. For a manufacturing project, IMDIAM also checks dimensions in millimetres, stone height and compatibility with the CAD file or planned jewellery.
Certification and quality criteria
Depending on the request, the search can cover certified or non-certified diamonds. Significant stones can be accompanied by a laboratory report when available — GIA or IGI depending on the stone type and market availability. Criteria can include weight, colour, clarity, cut, fluorescence and proportions shown on the report.
Assortment for calibrated melee diamonds
For pavé, halos, surrounds, bracelets or series production, the challenge is not only to find stones one by one — a coherent matched set is needed. Calibrated melee diamonds can be sourced by size in millimetres, quantity, colour, visual clarity and lot homogeneity. Availability and prices are confirmed at the time of the project.
How it works

Frequently asked questions
Do you work with both natural and lab-grown diamonds?+
Yes. We can source natural diamonds and lab-grown diamonds according to the project criteria. The choice depends on your objective, budget and the positioning of the piece.
Can we get GIA or IGI certified diamonds?+
For a centre stone or individual stone of a certain size, we can search for a GIA or IGI certified stone depending on the project criteria and on-site availability. For small melee diamonds, we work by calibrated lot selection — these stones are generally not accompanied by an individual certificate.
What is calibrated melee?+
Calibrated melee refers to small diamonds used in quantity in a piece of jewellery: pavé, halo, surround, bracelet, necklace. They are selected by lot according to size in mm, colour, visual clarity and homogeneity, to match your CAD specifications.
Can sourcing be integrated into a manufacturing project?+
Yes. Diamond sourcing can be offered as a standalone service or integrated into a full manufacturing project. In that case, it is coordinated with production stages to ensure stones are available at the right time.
Do you confirm price and availability in advance?+
No. Availability, prices and timelines are confirmed at the time of the project based on on-site conditions. No final price or availability can be guaranteed before the search is launched.
What lead times should I expect for sourcing?+
Lead times depend on the stone type, criteria, on-site availability and complexity of the request. No fixed timeline is confirmed without prior clarification of the project.
